Summer Program
"If the idea of the universe be presented to the child in the right way, it will do more for him than just arouse his interest, for it will create in him admiration and wonder, a feeling loftier than any interest and more satisfying. The child’s mind will then no longer wander, but becomes fixed and can work. The knowledge he acquires is organized and systematic; his intelligence becomes whole and complete because of the vision of the whole that has been presented to him, and his interest spreads to all, for all are linked and have their place in the universe on which his mind is centered." (To Educate the Human Potential, p. 6)
Each summer, IMSchools offers ‘Camp Mosaic’, a relaxed summer learning experience with weekly themes – see below. The 2021 Summer Camp will run from June 21 until August 20, 2021, and we accept students from 6 months to 6 years of age.
While our traditional Montessori materials are still used, this relaxed program incorporates more outdoor time, more gardening time, and many hands-on enrichment opportunities related to the theme. Children can register for weekly sessions or the whole camp.
2021 Camp Mosaic Weekly Camp Themes
Week 1 (June 21-25) – Welcome to Camp!
Welcome to International Montessori Schools Camp Mosaic. This week we will get to meet new friends and see our old classmates.
Overview of Ecology.Ecology is the study of the relationships between living organisms, including humans, and their physical environment; it seeks to understand the vital connections between plants and animals and the world around them. We will work with our campers on materials related to this theme.
Week 2 (June 28- July 2) & Week 3 (July 6-9)- Forest
We will learn more about animals that live in this biome. For instance, pileated woodpeckers like sugar maple trees, and evergreen trees, especially the white pine. Turkeys and porcupines like to roost/sit in hemlocks. Red and grey squirrels like oak trees. Deer, rabbits, owls, red fox, woodchucks, mud daubers, yellow jackets, bears, bark beetles, snakes, bats, butterflies, coyotes, and raccoons inhabit different parts of the forest.
Week 4 (July 12-16) &Week 5 (July 19-23) – Meadow
We will learn about butterflies (especially the monarch if there is milkweed present in our school garden), snakes, mice, yellow jackets, rabbits, spiders, skunks, grasshoppers, ground nesting fowl like the grouse and pheasant, damselflies that live their young life in water then leave it when they mature, bumblebees that frequent the wildflowers to gather pollen to make honey, hawks that dive for small animals to eat, and birds that dive for insects.
Week 6 (July 26- 30) & Week 7 (August 2-6) – Pond
We will learn about frogs, dragonflies, young damselflies, diving beetles, newts, snails, fish, crawdads, snapping turtles, muskrats, and some snakes that live in the water. We will learn about mallard ducks and how they build their nests next to the water, mate, swim and “fish” in the water. We discuss deer, raccoons and other wild animals that use the pond as a “watering hole”. Children will engage in fun filled activities relating to this biome.
Week 8 (August 9-13) & Week 9 (August 16-20)- Sandy Beach
Sandy beaches not only provide habitat for numerous species of plants and animals, they also serve as breeding grounds for many species that are not residential to the beach. Beaches support a rich web of life including worms, bivalves, and crustaceans. Our campers will learn a lot about how diverse beaches are and that they serve as a critical link between marine and terrestrial environments.
In essence, children will learn how all things are interconnected and therefore will begin to appreciate the beauty around them.

- Our daughter has been at the school since 6 months old. This is one of the few Montessori schools in the area that will take infants. We also loved the home like setting. The facility is warm and inviting. Our daughter is now in the pre-primary class and is thriving. She loves going to school!- Michael Niman. 9/10/20177 Reviews
- Our family loves the International Montessori School of Wilmington. We have been sending our kids there since 2012. The staff is patient, loving and kind. I was so stressed about having to go back to work and finding a safe and loving place for my precious babies. IMS was/is a perfect fit for us. We're so happy with IMS and highly recommended them.- Alice Leonard. 9/6/20177 Reviews

- My two year old attends here and we love it! All of the staff know my daughter, my husband and me by name and they are genuinely interested in ensuring we all have the best experience possible there. My daughter’s vocabulary has blossomed since she has been there, and her sense of self and independence too. She even asks to prepare her own snacks, goes to the bathroom independently and operates in the Montessori way at home. Highly recommended and I can’t say enough good things about this place!!- Lisa Street. 9/6/20177 Reviews
- My son is currently in his 5th year at the International Montessori School, and we are sad that he is already moving onto a new school next year. We could not be happier with the care and education he has received here. His teachers have all been very attentive and nurturing, and he does not hesitate to greet them with a hug every day. This is especially important to his dad and I as he spends several hours, including aftercare, at his school. We are so happy to see that he is comfortable and "at home" while at school and we have a tremendous amount of trust in the teachers and staff there. The Montessori curriculum has truly helped him to grow in his own unique way. I really like how the curriculum circles back on itself from one year to the next, allowing my son to get reintroduced to concepts that he has already learned. This gave him a "second chance" with some concepts that he was weak on the first time around OR master a concept he already had a good grasp on the previous year. In this way, he has developed confidence and is ready to move onto the next step in his education! Please consider sending your child to this great school!- J G. 10/21/20167 Reviews
